Sooners Riding Shotgun on CFB Roller Coaster

So far 3 weeks have gone by in the college football world. Already. And so far it has been a roller coaster ride for the Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners started out with a lack-luster performance against Utah State, which I think had me and most fans across the country questioning whether Phil Steele was sipping on purple drank when he called Oklahoma number 1 in his preseason poll. The Sooners were sloppy all over the field leaving Landry Jones running for his life on offense and the defense giving the Utah State QB Diondre Borel all the time in the world to make a play. They went into the game with a very questionable kicking game which had me crossing my fingers that it would clear the uprights. Though a rough ride, the Sooners pulled it out 31-24 in the end. It did give us a chance to see some positives though. Tom Wort, DeMarco Murray, and Ryan Broyles. But a team that wasn’t considered a “cake walk” was coming to town the next week, The No. 17  Florida State Seminoles. The only thing going through my mind after the Utah State game was “OH MY GOD…..”Landry Jones

The Seminoles and QB Heisman hopeful Christian Ponder rolled into to town, and brought a pretty decent fan base with them. There were quite a few ‘Noles fans in attendance. They were loud, they were obnoxious and they expected a win. The Sooners team that took the field during this weeks game was the EXACT opposite of the previous week. It dominated ALL over the place. Frank Alexander and Company held Ponder to very non-Heisman like numbers with only completing 11 of 28 with 113 yards and 2 interceptions. The Sooners hurry-up offense really got to the “Noles defense and were worn out early in the game. The Oklahoma defense did a fantastic job of keeping Ponder on the run and shutting down their offense early. And they not only won, they gave a beat down of 47-17. Impressive to say the least.

Well here comes the Air Force Academy. After last weeks slaughter, should be easy, right?? Come on kids, it wouldn’t be college football if it was. The AFA Falcons came in leading the country rushing didn’t disappoint  their fans by adding 351 yards to that number and scoring 14 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to bring the score to 27-24. The Sooners started the game off strong. Broyles and Murray looked good. It starting to almost look like Landry Jones doesn’t trust his “O” Line much. Inside the pocket he seems really nervous and rolls out right into the line of fire.  But in his defense I am comparing him to past greats like Sam Bradford and Jason White.  One of my favorites of the team so far and has really been a standout is Freshman Kenny Stills. He has really been stepping up. I am also really liking Tom Wort aka Brian Bosworth Jr.

Still with a brutal schedule coming up, we have seen positives and negatives come out early. With the “Big One” coming Oct. 2nd,  let us hope that Stoops will gather the Troops once again and get back to being “Big Game Bob”.  I miss him, and so does Sooner Nation.

I want to mention a site to all the Sooner Fans and college football fans in general who want a good read.  Some of you may have already stumbled across them but if you haven’t, I urge you to check it out. Fantastic reads with a sense of humor. I promise you won’t be sorry.

I also want to mention that Tradition Eight(TraditionEight.com) held a Q&A contest for Billy Sims and Brian Bosworth a couple weeks ago and my question won! I’m not sure what I won yet, but I think it might be a signed shirt from the both of them. BOOMER! Click here to see my question answered by the Boz and Billy!!!!
